Voting is currently underway to determine the seven wonders of the modern world. It seems that they're trying to prevent mass voting by making the website the slowest in history to load. They will be counting the handful of votes ready to annouce the winner on 1 January 2007.
I'm not sure how they define modern: whether it's the modern perpective or whether the wonders themselves must be modern. I think it's the former, due to the inclusion of the Acropolis, the Egyptian and Mayan pyramids (separately) and the Easter Island statues in the short-list of 21.
Anyway, below are my alternative suggestions for the seven wonders of the modern world, none of which are listed in the official competition, for whatever reason. They are in alphabetical/numerical order.
- (2^30,402,457)-1
- The apostrophe
- Braille
- The FedEx logo
- Microsoft Excel
- Pi
- UK postcodes
